FULL NAME: László Frigyes Pataki, but he doesn't usually write out the accents and doesn't expect anyone else to either.
NICKNAMES: Las
AGE/DOB: 17 / October 19th / Libra
YEAR: Junior
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male, he/him
SEXUALITY: Indiscriminately obsessed with the concept of romantic love, but willing to experiment with casual flings in the meantime. He dated
Zadie Lovelace last year, and proved himself to be a possessive, jealous, and overall unpleasant boyfriend. Despite that, they're still friends.
HOMETOWN: Originally: Sufolk, Virginia. There is a looming, moss covered mansion somewhere on the edges of the Great Dismal Swamp, and everything about it promises to be haunted. It's elegant, but you'd think it was abandoned... except the lights are on, and sometimes music can be heard coming from the sitting room. Many locals doubt it exists, but kids will swear they've seen it. It's just that their phones never seem to work right around it, and the pictures never turn out.
Mr. Pataki really needs to update his muggle-repelling charms. They're nearly as old as the house itself, and intrepid urban explorers keep trying to trespass. This is where Laszlo grew up. The interior is a lot nicer than the exterior.
Currently: Elflock Falls, West Virginia. Since his mom got custody last year, she's relocated from New York City to live in one half of a small, quirky duplex with Laszlo in Elflock Falls. She moved there last year so Laszlo could continue attending the same school. It's a big change from Laszlo's sprawling estate
and Eleanora's big city.
APPEARANCE:Those who knew Laszlo freshman year at Malstrom probably wouldn't recognize him. Once he was boy who exclusively wore button down shirts and sweaters, and every morning straightened his hair into a perfect, pristine style. He was eerie and dour, and tended to make people uncomfortable.
That last bit might still be true, but not much else has stayed the same. Puberty hit, and Las turned into a gangly teenager, with long limbs and big hands. Only now is his mother pretty sure he'll stop outgrowing every item of clothing she buys him. His hair is a mop of completely untamed curls, and it's been ages since he's even thought of brewing a straightening potion. A telling feature he's had since infancy is a beauty mark on the left side of his face just above his lip.
Laszlo's long since given up on the wizarding look he once was so loyal to. Muggle clothes are cheap and easy to find in town, which is really the key factor. So he has no particular style, layering in whatever he finds first in his trunk. He stands out like a sore thumb next to his
significantly more fashionable friends, looming behind them with his hood up. Sometimes he wears glasses, which instantly make him look like the nerd he really is.
Despite lacking much interest in fashion, Laszlo is extremely fastidious about his hygiene. He hates feeling "dirty" and will immediately shower after being forced to do anything that would compromise his cleanliness. Most of his body products he brews himself.
HEIGHT: 6'1
BUILD: Underweight and lanky
PB: Alex Wolff
INSPO: Pinboard What would others say is their most prominent personality trait — what's the first thing people notice about them?Laszlo is odd. He stares too hard and the way he speaks is stilted and choppy, like he's choosing every word individually. At the same time he's obviously spacey, barely aware of his surroundings as his mind wanders. It's hardly unusual for a member of Deeplurk to be weird, but Laszlo's not a fun sort of eccentric. His social skills are lacking, and he doesn't really care. He puts very little effort into streamlining his behavior, and surrounds himself with people who don't care if he's socially awkward and poor about boundaries. Laszlo definitely knows your name, and possibly a few other unexpected things about you. He's over-interest in people can be offputting, especially when he can be so alarmingly blunt about it. And yet, he's so secretive and careful. It's hard to tell how much Laszlo's offhand comments are actual thoughtlessness, or if they're intentional rudeness.
There's a sort of sadness to him, as though he's always sitting in the shadows. He's not shy, but he
is quiet, constantly lost in thought. He's a spotty student, breezing through some classes while others expose him for being clueless and prone to panic.
Laszlo seems very sweet, though. Whether or not he is? That's a question for later, but he's extremely mannerly around people he doesn't know well. He says please and thank you, and is very good at being demure and unobtrusive. It makes him easy for adults to deal with... at first. Laszlo has a well-earned reputation for being a troublemaker. He's usually a polarizing personality, alternately magnetic and repulsive.
How would this character describe themself? What do they think are their best and worst qualities?Laszlo would do just about anything to avoid describing himself. If he were forced, he might talk about his skills. These are concrete things he
knows he can do, and they're the only self-worth he really has. If he can't prove it, he can't do it, and therefore it's worthless. This means that Laszlo doesn't have a lot of good things to say about himself as a person. He would talk about himself like a functional machine.
He's constantly caught between arrogance and his poor self-image. Years with his father have ground down his self-esteem, but he also gave Laszlo a sense of superiority. He was disappointing, yes, but he was still better than the rest of them. When Laszlo is confident, he's
overconfident, and cares little for boundaries, restrictions, or other peoples' feelings. As he is genuinely talented, it means he often accomplishes what he sets out to do, but that's not necessarily a good thing when Laszlo is
full of bad ideas and can be callous when handling other people.
What drives them to action? Doing good? Getting rich? Receiving praise?Laszlo is fueled by curiosity. "What will happen if ____?" is his constant mantra, and it guides every aspect of his life. He often does or says things just because he can, or because he wants to see what happens. This makes him impulsive and unpredictable, and incredibly hard to dissuade. The more he hears "no", the more fascinated he becomes. He changes his mind like the wind, following his curiosity and sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. This changeable nature means that Laszlo is not a stubborn person, and if he finds he was wrong he'll change his position. What he said last week may not be what he feels or thinks today.
The only thing that stands a chance of reigning Las in is his deep attachment to his friends. If they tell him no, he will reluctantly back down. Their approval and affection is extremely important to him, and the threat of withdrawing that can keep him in line. When asked pressing questions he'll usually glance at a nearby confidant for direction. He needs to be part of a group, and wants the group to be absolutely concrete. In-fighting upsets him, as do threatening outsiders. He'd do anything for a friend.
Anything. What are their opinions on rules? How do they interact with authority figures?Doesn't care for them, thanks. Laszlo has always seen punishment as an inevitability, just another part of his calculated plan. If he wants to do something, he figures in the punishment in advance. This makes him
extremely difficult to discipline, because he knows perfectly well when he's done something wrong, and already anticipated the punishment. It's simply the cost of doing business. And now that there's no intimidating authority figure waiting for him at home, Laszlo has become even harder to control. He knows his mother won't do anything bad to him, and he just needs to be good enough to not be expelled.
He's good at pretending to be sorry, but he's a classic case of only being sorry he was caught, not that he did something bad. Laszlo is very sorry he gave everyone in Malstrom Amortentia without consent,
really. And he won't do it again! (Mostly because that would probably get him kicked out of Peckenpaugh.) Any future experiments will need to be less extreme, or at least more difficult to trace back to him. Rules are an inconvenient hurdle, and Las sees them as a little beneath him. They only get in the way of science and progress. Sure, they serve a purpose, but not for
him. Not right
now.
However, Laszlo hates it when people are legitimately angry with him. Any authority figure that raises their voice or shouts him down can quickly crack Laszlo's composure, because Laszlo is sensitive.
How sensitive?
How sensitive are they?Extremely. Laszlo see-saws between arrogance and self-loathing, and it's not hard to tip the scaled to the latter. While he often appears impervious to the opinions of others, his feelings can be easily hurt by people he holds in high regard. Trying to argue with him, yelling at him, or threatening him will immediately make him retreat into his shell. While not especially emotional, he does cry rather easily.
He's also sensitive about where he stands with people, constantly insecure about whether or not his friends love him. Unfortunately, this fear can make him paranoid and jealous. His default setting is negativity, and all that pessimism makes him see threats and enemies behind every corner. Laszlo takes a while to feel safe in any given situation, and he's easily spooked out of any sense of security built for him.
Laszlo is moody and bitter, and can slip into melancholy at the drop of a hat. Right now it's manifesting as jaded teen feelings about society's flaws and the meaning of life. He's a romantic at heart and is easily swayed by grand ideas, especially when they're pessimistic and negative. He's sincere, depressed, and
extremely pretentious.
How does this character handle tense social situations like arguments/fights?Laszlo values cooperation, peace and teamwork, which means that even the slightest hint of antagonism sets him on edge. It's not as though he doesn't have a temper, but overt conflict makes him anxious.
Not wanting to fight doesn't mean Laszlo doesn't have a temper. He's easily angered when someone slights himself or a friend, and if it's bad enough, he
will resort finding revenge. Ideally in a way where it doesn't come back to him, and he never needs to face consequences. The most you can get out of Laszlo face-to-face (or page-to-page) might be a couple snide comments before he disappears from the conversation. His main goal with aggressive individuals (his least favorite type of person) is to engage them as little as possible. Only with close friends is he willing to air his grievances about people he doesn't get along with.
What is their sense of humor like? Are they chronically unserious? How's their comedic timing? Do they hate potty humor?Laszlo may be a little on the morose side, but he does love to have fun. He has a sly, mischievous sense of humor, and likes to tease and needle his friends. He can be a little unintentionally blunt at times, but he tries to be gentle and has a certain charm to him at times. If you fall into his orbit, Laszlo is always full of ideas, and that often extends to finding entertainment. Not all of it is conventional or strictly within the rules, but his curiosity can lead him and friends into interesting spots. It's particularly easy to find something
fascinating to do around Peckenpaugh.
But that mischievous trait comes with a tendency to like tricking people, and finding it funny when he gets the upper hand. If you've done something to upset him or a friend, he'll probably enjoy watching something bad happen to you later. And that bad thing? He might have been the one to cause it. Last year,
Harrison Hartshorn made
Armani Addams cry (unknowingly), and they came down with a mysterious case of "food poisoning."
What is this character’s relationship with magic and the world of witches and wizards? Are they highly reliant upon magic? Are they a particularly inept spellcaster? Do muggle things seem alien?Laszlo was sheltered from infancy. He hardly interacted with anyone besides his parents (let alone Muggles) until freshman year of high school. He knows very little about the Muggle world, but he
is curious. Although all the food and music and intentions are fun, they don't outweigh what he sees as a slew of terrifying downsides. While the Patakis were not outright purist, Las does carry the baggage of being told it's a bad break to be a Muggle, and getting close with them is a bad idea. Laszlo says he'd never want to fall in love with one, not because of his bloodline, but because they'd die too quickly and leave him all alone.

clingy FUN FACTS:❦ Keeps a binder full of carefully labeled hair he's stolen from classmates. He says he doesn't do this anymore. He's lying.
❦ Laszlo's corner of the dorm room is dripping with house plants. He has a charmed trunk for storing them, and at the end of the year he packs them all up again. The windowsill of the room has been completely overtaken by plants, as has his desk, and a handful even hang from the ceiling.
❦ Has decided that
Presley Mondragon is his arch-nemesis after he caught Laszlo breaking a few rules last year. He has not left Presley alone since.
LANGUAGES: English (native), Hungarian (fluent), Hebrew (scattered)
HOBBIES: Indoor gardening, "experimental" potioneering, researching personal information on classmates and teachers, a concerning collection of hair and blood samples, developing throwaway crushes, drawing.
SKILLS:
❦ Potions (★★★★★) Laszlo is widely considered a potions prodigy. He's had the advantage of training under his parents since he could hold a flask, but there's no denying that he has a natural eye for chemistry. Laszlo can brew a concerning number of extremely dangerous potions, and likes to modify and alter them in terms of effect and delivery. Sometimes his results are inspired, but just as often they're dangerous or explosive.
Laszlo is not overly concerned with the morality of alchemy, and is proud of the fact he can brew full strength Amortentia. His pet project is to create a version of Amortentia that creates the euphoria and customized scent aspects of the potion... without the unfortunate manic infatuation side effects. His attempts have resulted in a lot of wild (but still undesirable) alternatives. His motivation is partially monetary, but largely intellectual curiosity, of which Laszlo has a lot. Maybe too much. Sometimes he does things or drugs people just because he can, or even as retribution for some slight against him or a friend. Much to many an adult's concern, he thinks discussions about right and wrong are boring, and therefore beneath him.
(OOC Note: Laszlo can theoretically brew almost any canon potion in addition to ones I make up, but all results will be ran by the mods for approval. Particularly advanced/powerful potions might not work out as desired to keep things even. Laszlo will never successfully dose a character without their player's consent.)
❦ Poisons & Dark Arts Potions (★★★★☆) This is a more theoretical study, and Laszlo has yet to brew anything of the sort. He ravenously ready study material, though, and knows a lot about poisonous plants. He even owns a couple himself. It's not illegal. He checked.
❦ Medical Diagnosis Potions (★★★☆☆) This is where Laszlo's father made his fortune. Laszlo himself can almost brew it correctly (his father never actually shared the recipes, saying Laszlo wasn't smart enough to understand them), but he's always been garbage at interpreting the results. Laszlo sees warning signs in everything, and has diagnosed half his classmates with some kind of disease or disorder that will leave them dead before middle age. Being in Pre-Healer studies has curbed some of this, but he still needs a second pair of eyes to reassure him that his latest crush isn't dying of cancer because the potion turned mauve.
❦ Stalking Going Unnoticed & Research (★★★★★) Laszlo is big, but he's also quiet. He has a knack for disappearing from view and making himself easy to ignore. Unfortunately, he likes to use these skills to follow people, eavesdrop on conversations, and track their schedules. He keeps well-hidden notes on the daily habits of certain people, and sometimes his interest extends into researching their personal life and gossip surrounding them. It's hard to discourage Laszlo from doing this because he finds it to be, well, fun. The likely victims of this undesirable attention are crushes, rivals, and anyone else who piques his interest. It could have been a small thing you did in public without thinking about it, but it was enough to draw Laszlo's eye for weeks or even months.
❦ Gardening (★★★★☆) Specifically indoor gardening. His corner of the room is full of plants, arranged according to light needs. He's particularly enamored with orchids. Sometimes his indoor jungle will spill out into his roommates' space, but it does make the junior Deeplurk boys' dorm feel more alive. Laszlo's eye for details helps his green thumb a lot. Every morning he carefully inspects every plant before leaving for breakfast. On his windowsill is a series of test tubes full of plant cuttings that are slowly growing roots.
❦ Art (★★★☆☆) Laszlo likes to draw still life, and will arrange his bottles and plants to sketch out. He only really uses pencils and paper, and rarely colors anything. What he can do is very nice, but he doesn't have much interest in expanding his skillset beyond sketches of plants.
❦ Duelling (★☆☆☆☆) He's very... experimental. Laszlo may be able to pick up spells quickly, but he can't resist trying something new. This makes him an unpredictable, messy opponent that anyone with moderate skill can quickly dispatch, assuming Laszlo doesn't take himself out first. Every once in a while one of his gambits will work, but it's not the norm, nor worthy of praise.
❦ Existing (☆☆☆☆☆) Laszlo has spent a total of two years as a "normal" teenager, and the real world is still pretty alien to him. He's taken to learning about it zealously, but his extremely limited education is obvious.
❦ Saying Incorrect Things About Muggles (★★★★★) Laszlo has never spoken to an average muggle. He's still learning. No, he will not pay attention in Muggle Tech.
FAMILY:❦ Professor Benedek Pataki, father, groundbreaking potioneer. If you have any interest in potioneering or healer studies, you've heard the name Benedek Pataki. He developed a concoction dubbed Prof. Pataki's Predictive Potion, which can use small hair and blood samples to analyze risks of genetic disorders. It's incredibly difficult to reproduce, so in addition to royalties, Benedek is paid to analyze samples sent to his home. Later in life he completely holed himself (and his son) up in his palatial home, withdrawing completely from society. Benedek's relationship with Laszlo has never been healthy, and Laszlo is currently refusing all of his father's attempts to contact him.
❦ Eleanora Slughorn (formerly Pataki), mother, apothecary. Eleanora is a demure but brilliant woman who currently works in a wizarding pharmacy in Charleston that she Apparates to and from. Her income was fairly good, but years of custody battles have made money tight. She came over from the UK when she was 19 to apprentice to Benedek, and ended up marrying him only two years later despite a decade wide age gap. They divorced seven years later, and only recently did she gain full custody of Laszlo. She tries a little too hard to Be A Perfect Mom to Laszlo. They have very similar demeanors, which means their interactions are deeply awkward.
Eleanora contributed a great deal to Benedek's potion development which earned him his millions. She's currently in a legal battle to be compensated for her efforts, on top of Benedek challenging her for custody of Laszlo.
Laszlo and Eleanora have developed a desperately tight bond, but there's still a lot he has to work through to see her as more than an escape route.
BACKGROUND: (TW CHILD ABUSE)CHILDHOOD. Laszlo's father was bad from the start, and adding a baby did not fix him or the marriage. Benedek was controlling and paranoid, and Eleanora and Laszlo were not exempt. They lived isolated in the middle of the Great Dismal Swamp, where no one could apparate in or out. Benedek had slowly withdrawn from pureblood society, and Laszlo has early memories of him warning him of the failings of society. He was temperamental and difficult to please, but the wider Healer community benefited from his contributions to medical potioneering. He'd made a fortune, and now had the luxury of never needing to leave his house. Laszlo was homeschooled, but the only things his father saw fit to teach him were potions and herbology. Days were regimented, and if any part of the family routine didn't happen as Benedek saw fit, he'd explode with anger.
Eleanora, Laszlo's mother, was his assistant. She was the one who went outside for ingredients and necessities, and when Laszlo was six, she left and never came back. Laszlo's father reacted with his usual dramatics and rage, and told Laszlo that his mother had abandoned them. From that point onward, he became obsessed with the idea that Laszlo would abandon him as well. He wasn't allowed to leave the property, in case the outside world corrupted him or lured him away. While his father always made it clear how much he
needed Laszlo and loved him, it was a relationship where that affection was routinely withdrawn. Punishments weren't often violent, but they
were bizarre. Laszlo was kept busy from sunrise to sunset with studying and chores. Mealtimes were the same every day, and the chores only changed with the seasons. His father told him that he couldn't be trusted to use his spare time wisely, and that Laszlo was too much like his mother. The days mostly blurred together.
FRESHMAN YEAR. Benedek was a graduate of Malstrom Academy, which might be why he finally decided Laszlo should be enrolled in school. Laszlo was unprepared for high school, academically and socially. He struggled to fit in, and some of the things he said and did made teachers...
concerned. He used fellow students as test subjects for potions he'd made changes to, and then burst into tears when reprimanded.
And then the first letter arrived. It was addressed to Laszlo from New York City, and it was from his mother. Laszlo had been told for years that his mother was an awful woman who didn't love him, so he didn't open it. A new letter arrived every couple of weeks, but he just hid them in his trunk and went on with his life.
THE AMORTENTIA INCIDENT. Until the Amortentia Incident, anyway. Laszlo had been thinking for a while about how
he'd become wealthy like his father, maybe wealthy enough to live alone, and got a "brilliant" idea. What if he could brew a version of Amortentia that didn't make you fall in love? It'd be the perfect perfume, you'd smell perfect to everyone.
So he made a few tweaks, and then decided he needed to do a test. Luckily, he was surrounded by subjects. He slipped the Amortentia into the morning tea and coffee, and within an hour the school was in chaos. Laszlo was immediately suspected, as he could a) brew it, and b) had a history of this sort of behavior, albeit on a smaller scale. He was promptly expelled.
PECKENPAUGH. Laszlo's father was angry, but not as angry as Laszlo thought he'd be. He didn't care about the kids who ended up drugged, just that Laszlo would not be graduating from Malstrom. And then there was the matter of a few suspicious instructors who told authorities to look into the Pataki household. Benedek sent Laszlo to Peckenpaugh to finish his freshman year, and a few nice young witches and wizards began asking Laszlo about his home life. It was a shock to learn that his mother had not, in fact, just disappeared. She'd been fighting for custody for years.
Peckenpaugh was more fun than Malstrom had been. So much of Laszlo's life had been carefully regimented, and now it was chaos. It was frequently overwhelming, but there was more room for oddness there. He made his first friends, and when summer came he was
not sent back to his father's home, but rather to a nice foster family in the area. The letters from his mother kept arriving, and Laszlo finally began opening them.
Sophomore year came, and Laszlo became close with a girl in his class who also enjoyed potions:
Zadie Lovelace. The two began dating, but it was far from a match made in heaven. While Zadie was very tolerant of Laszlo's rule breaking behavior, neither of them had counted on how intense and jealous he would get. His paranoia that she was going to leave him for a mermaid became too big of a strain on the relationship, and they split. Laszlo's fear that he's just like his father has kept him from anything serious since.
LIVING WITH MOM. By the time the next summer came along, Eleanora had won custody of Laszlo. She moved from New York to Elflock Falls so Laszlo could stay in the same school
and would be close to her. They moved into half of a small, quirky duplex, and Laszlo got his first familiar and a small jungle of houseplants all to himself.
The legal battles between his parents weren't over, though. During the course of the custody case it was revealed that the majority of his father's lucrative work was done by his mother while she was his assistant. This is on top of his father challenging Eleanora for custody again, which feels more like harassment than a legitimate attempt. None of this has been resolved yet, but it's still the most peaceful things have been for mother and son in years.
WAND: 10 1/3", Bocote wood, ashwinder core, surprisingly whippy. Laszlo's wand is notable for its leather hilt and the menacing skull carved out of bone on the end. It was once his paternal great grandfather's. It's happiest when Laszlo is being creative, and is prone to mirroring his mood. When he's being dramatic, it gives off theatrical shows of smoke, sparks and light, but when he's creeping around it can be impressively subtle. They're a good match, although it's a particularly poor duelling wand, as it prefers to work slowly and deliberately with no tolerance for sloppiness. (
x)
FAMILIAR: A magpie named Paracelsia. Parry was a gift from his mother, as capable of carrying letters as any owl. She's a bit nippy with strangers, and much louder than the average owl.
CAREER GOALS: Laszlo knows potions are an inevitable part of his future, but he's going through a edgy teenage phase. Las has plenty of reasons to be bitter and jaded, and the combination of a difficult childhood and being sixteen has hit him hard. All this is to say Laszlo is more likely to talk about how pointless society is than career aspirations. He has a part time job, and the thought of doing this for the rest of his life sounds so boring and mundane, and Laszlo doesn't want to be either of those things.
PART-TIME JOB: Potioneering assistant at Pompel & Swint. Conflict averse Laszlo is often stuck mediating for his two employers or otherwise being the go-between. He'd like the job a lot more if there was less arguing. Then again, when they're busy fighting, they're less likely to notice if a little this or that goes missing.
CLASSES: ❦ Potions. (H) Laszlo is breezing through potions this year, just like last year,
and the year before. He's naturally gifted
and has been intensively studying it since childhood. Although Laszlo might have been considered for TA, his behavior made him a less than ideal candidate.
❦ Hermeticism. Quick-witted and bright, Laszlo
could be very good at Hermeticism if he weren't so impulsive and unprepared. A for effort, but a B-/C+ for his "Why not?" approach to the subject matter.
❦ Herbology. (H) Laszlo has been raising indoor plants for years, and knows everything about soil PH, sun needs, how to tell if a plant needs to be watered, etc. He's very detail oriented and knows how to make his subjects flourish.
❦ Astronomy. Laszlo has a mind for details, but not a lot of focus. When it's something he needs for Alchemy, Mr. Hobgood has his rapt attention, but otherwise Laszlo struggles. It's not helpful that he's still behind in mathematics compared to his peers.
❦ Charms. Laszlo picks up spells quickly, but there are a number of basic ones he only learned freshman year onward. This is due to being homeschooled without a permit allowing him to practice underage magic. His spellwork basics need help, and his wandwork is sloppy.
❦ Transfiguration. Laszlo's lack of primary education holds him back again. Laszlo is extremely slow in this class. He follows the instructions and equations
very carefully, like he's handling a touchy potions recipe. It often makes the results less than ideal.
❦ Pre-Healer. Pre-Healer studies puts Laszlo in a better place, with the fair emphasis on things he
did learn from his father. He knows a great deal about medical potions and herbology, so he only needs to play catch-up in a couple areas. His feverfew plants are
luscious.
❦ Alchemy. Finally, back in his comfort zone! Laszlo is
obsessed with Alchemy. He's constantly showing up during Mr. Berzelius' office hours to ask questions (some reasonable, some... not). He takes to it with gusto and confidence that's not common for Laszlo, although sometimes that bubbles over into arrogance (which means, yes, explosions). Laszlo ban brew most common and many
uncommon potions, but when bored, he
will deviate and try to do something new.
EXTRA-CURRICULARS: ❦ AV Club. Laszlo hosts a Student & Staff Spotlight segment where every other week he interviews a classmate or staff member. The questions inevitably get very personal, with a particular focus on stirring up drama, romantic or otherwise. It's clear he researches his subjects before hand (in uncomfortable depth) so he can write the most pointed questions possible. It's only a matter of time before he runs out of willing participants.
❦ Arithletes. Laszlo is an asset when it comes to facts about potions, poisons, plants, and how all three work together. In every other subject he's a complete liability.
❦ Duelling + Wandwork. He's as likely to hurt himself as his opponent, but
refuses to quit. Or improve.
❦ Performing Arts. (crew, "special effects") Las wants every production to include a great deal of smoke effects and explosions.
❦ Cheer. The Addams twins are cheerleaders, so Laszlo is a cheerleader. That was the logic behind him trying out for cheer, and... frankly, he needs work. Laszlo's qualifications are that he's tall, very cooperative, and genuinely loves fun school activities. He has more fun with pep rallies and decorations than dancing. Just put him in the back row.
SORTING?: Laszlo's sorting was a bit on the long side, thanks to his insatiable curiosity. He carefully took in each room, mulled over questions, tried to ask a few of his own, etc. It was that same curiosity that led him to Deeplurk, which won him over by asking the oddest questions. He needed to figure out just what was going on in Deeplurk, and in a way he still is. The house of unique oddballs suits him well.
